ECH freshman top the District & State pass rate for State End-of Course Tests in English I and Algebra I.
99% of Early College freshmen earn high school credits to be promoted to 10th grade.
24% of ECH freshmen deemed “college ready” for the sophomore year of high school.

The Horry County Early College High School opened
doors in August 2006
A small, personalized academic program targeted to those who
are underrepresented in postsecondary education. Located on the
Conway campus of Horry-Georgetown Technical College, the Early
College program represents a unique public-private partnership
among Horry County Schools, Horry-Georgetown Technical
College, and Business/Education Expectations Partnership (BE2).

- 9 teachers - 1 guidance counselor

An AVID high school
Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a student
support system to prepare students in the academic middle for
four-year college eligibility. Implemented at our ECH, it has a
proven track record in bringing out the best in students, and in
closing the achievement gap.
95% of ECH freshmen passed Algebra I End-0f Course Test
Eighty-one percent of HCS freshmen passed while
80% passed at the State* level.
86% of ECH freshmen passed English I End-0f Course Test
Sixty-seven percent of HCS freshmen passed while 76%
passed at the State* level.
*State scores available for 2006 only.
CLOSING THE GAP
There is no gap in academic achievement for ECH African
American and Hispanic students from their white
counterparts.
95% RETENTION RATE
127 of 134 freshmen returned to ECH for their sophomore
year. Four returned to their HCS base high schools and
three moved out of the area.

Fall 2007 Course Results
Approximately 20% of ECH Sophomores took and completed their first college credit courses
successfully.

Spring 2008
Approximately 90% of ECH Sophomores are enrolled in college credit courses.
